Week 22 of Healthier Living in 2015

6/17/2015
For week of 6/10 - 6/17/2015
Weigh in Weight:  157.0 lose of 2 oz.

Week 22 of my healthier living journey in 2015 was very busy and very stressful.  Some of the stress was good and had to deal with Vacation Bible School which was awesome, yet again this year.  Some of the stress was not good and had to deal with death and dying.  So the fact that I lost a little bit of weight while being stressed and pregnant was quite amazing, especially since I had gained so much weight the previous two weeks.

I did pretty well with my goals for week 22.  I even managed to write in my journal a few times, which is a goal I had not written down for the week.  My daily exercise was to run after my toddler who wanted to participate in everything that had to do with VBS, as well as walks around town to do errands.  We managed to somehow fit in a play date at the park, which ended in us all going for a walk around town.  So I definitely stayed very active this week.  But I did take advantage of some of the down time in the morning and afternoon to put my feet up and completely veg out while my toddler watched his favorite movies over and over again.  I'm looking forward to getting out of that habit now that VBS is over, but it was okay for this week since most of it was very hectic.

Somehow despite the chaos traveling to Flathead Lutheran Bible camp over the weekend, and VBS, I managed to remember to get enough water and other mostly healthy fluids to drink.  I drank about 80-100 oz of water a day.  My constipation is still occasionally an issue but my water retention has not been too much of an issue during week 22.  My legs don't hurt and I lost a few ounces of water weight.

As for eating low-sodium foods and meals, that is something I will need to continue to work on.  Especially the last few days of week 22 with VBS, I haven't eaten as well as I should.  At least I can correct a lot of my eating habits for week 23 so I'll be keeping this as one of my goals.

I'm not sure if I will have access to a scale for weeks 23 and 24, since I weigh in on Wednesdays.  I will be traveling to Minnesota with my family to visit friends and my family there, but my mom might have a scale I can use.  Every scale I step on gives me a different weight, so I'm tempted to wait until we get back on July 2nd to weigh myself then and not weigh in for week 23.  I do plan to blog whether or not I weigh in for week 23, I just won't have a weigh in weight to post.  Therefore, I will set some goals for myself and do my best to stick with them on vacation.

Goals for week 23:
1) eat low-sodium foods and meals
2) get at least 7 hours of sleep a night
3) journal at least twice a week

Weeks 20-21 of Healthier Living in 2015

6/11/2015
Weeks 5/27 - 6/10/2015
Weigh in Weight: 157.2

The last few weeks, we have gone somewhere over the weekend and then we play catch up all week.  I have gained a significant amount of weight in two weeks.  I am slowly losing my excess water weight from too much sitting and not eating as well as I normally do while away.

I need to drink more fluids too because I've been dealing with water retention and constipation, two things that can happen to pregnant women.  Something about the increase in blood levels and so I need to drink more fluids, particularly water to prevent too much water retention and constipation.  It is something I am very aware of and am working on.

I desperately need to start walking again.  Today my son and I went for a walk with some friends after we went to the park for a play date this morning.  Despite the heat, it felt so good to walk around.  Of course the heat pretty much tired me out for the rest of the day, but my legs are starting to feel better.

Unfortunately, all of the progress I've made since Monday might go to crap starting tomorrow because we are going to be in the car for a while tomorrow and then again on Saturday as we head up to Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp.  My husband has meetings both days, so my son and I will be hanging out by the lake and hopefully walking around and getting some relaxation and exercise at the same time.

Pregnancy and excessive heat are a killer.  It just zaps my energy so in the afternoon I just want to sit and not move very much.  But what I should do is go down to the basement with my son and exercise, or find a way to stay cool in the limited shade outside and be active with my son.  I also need to figure out how to make time to do my speed walking, either outside or on the treadmill.  Either one will work, but it needs to be done.  Activity helps with the water retention and constipation along with drinking more fluids.

So my goals for week 22 are healthy eating and physical activity related.  I do need to keep working on my mental and emotional health as well, but working on being physically healthy will help the growing baby inside me, help my body be less achy, and help with my mental and emotional help as well.

Goals for week 22:  6/10 - 6/17/2015
1) Work on being more active daily and get some form of daily exercise
2) Drink 80 - 100 oz of water daily
3) eat low-sodium food and meals daily

Week 19 of Healthier Living in 2015

5/27/2015
Week of 5/20 - 5/27/2015
Weigh in Weight:  154.4 lbs.  gain of 6 oz.

I have progressively been gaining about 1 lb every two weeks for several weeks now and there is a reason for that.  I am pregnant for a third time and after my 12 week, 6 day appointment last Wednesday it was confirmed that the baby survived through the first trimester.

Baby Bear is due in early December but since I have decided to do a repeat c-section, he or she will be born the week of Thanksgiving.

Being pregnant does not change my goal for living healthier in 2015.  It does mean that until baby is born I will be gaining weight, which is health to do during pregnancy.  I have been monitoring my weight gain and have not gained more weight than I need to in early pregnancy.

I'm feeling better and am starting to have more energy to do everyday things again.

I am still have some water retention issues in my legs, but as long as I drink at least 80 oz of water a day, which I have been and get some daily activity and exercise in, they don't hurt and the water retention eases.

I still need to work on fitting time into my day a couple times a week to journal.  I really have no excuse except that for the last several weeks, all of my limited free time I use to nap and relax.  But since I am starting to have more energy, I can start using that time to journal or get some things done that I have let go because I was so tired.

I have been getting daily exercise but I have only been able to do one day of speed walking on the treadmill for week 19 because our schedules have been so hectic.  I like to do it, but if my husband can't watch our son in the morning, or if I have to get some cleaning done I do that instead.  So, speed walking on the treadmill has taken a back seat to other things, but I am happy that I was able to get it in one day for week 19.

So, I'll still be weighing in each week and although my weight will go up, I am holding myself to not gaining too much weight during my pregnancy.  The goal is between 15-20 lbs.  So far I am heading towards 20 lbs, which is okay for someone who was already overweight when I got pregnant this time.

I realize that I will be posting again for week 20 in two days, but I wanted to make sure I didn't skip a posting for week 19.  So until Wednesday, Keep on keeping on!

Goals for week 20:  5/27 - 6/3/2015
1) Journal at least 2x a week
2) Daily activity and exercise
3) Drink at least 80 oz of water a day
4) Monitor my salt and sugar intake because of possible water retention issues when I eat too much of it.
